Lose 10 pounds

May's challenge: Lose 10 Pounds

This month's challenge is to lose 10 pounds.

The Plan

To lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat. Simple math. So why are diets so complicated?

I decided to take everything I had ever read or tried and combine them in a simple formula: KIF.

Kinetic Focus: Exercise everyday.

Inner Focus: Ask yourself, "Will I feel guilty if I eat this?"

Food Focus: Be a vegetarian.

If you are following along with my little experiment, here is the official "warning": Before you begin any exercie or diet program, consult your doctor.

Okay, so there you go.

Three simple ways to stear myself to eat less and move more.

Day 6

I felt proud of myself making it to another session of Hot Yoga. Although I vow next time to arrive earlier. If you are a late comer, you have to endure the "looks" from others as they reluctantly move their mats to make way for you. I was wedged between a newcomer and a veteran yogi. I felt guilty that they had to move, but luckily I wasn't the last person to arrive. In fact, four people came after me. They got the "glare".

I don't remember much about today's practice, except that when I got up to roll up my mat the yoga newbie pointed to the floor and asked, "Is that my sweat or yours?"  I claimed the sweat. I was proud of it.

To encourage the Yoga participants of the 20 in 30 challenge, the owner posted all of our names on a giant poster board. After each name are twenty squares. When you have completed a session, you get to place a sticker in the square. It's like kindergarten. I look forward to putting my stickers up each day. I have two dolphins and one butterfly sticker.

Driving home I felt a sense of accomplishment until I noticed a low rider bicycle going down the main road to my house. I knew immediately it was a man who rode a lot around town. I don't know if he was born without the use of his legs or if it was caused by an accident. I only knew that my small achievement- my challenge- was small indeed.

Here's to overcoming all challenges, both the large and the small.
